What the hell is a 5-Block PAW anyway?

Well, this one is a Photo-A-Week project that I have constrained to a roughly 5-block square of downtown Seattle. What this means is that I will take a number of photographs within this area each week(usually 24-36) and I will post the one that I like best, shows what was going on, etc etc to a gallery page showing the 52 weeks of 2004.

Further, to help limit the variables to the subject, the whole project will be shot with the same camera, lens and film. The negatives will be processed in the same chemicals and as much as possible, the same set of Photoshop manipulations will be done on the scans.

The Subject - The 5 Block area is in the center of downtown Seattle - from Seneca to Stewart S/N and from the waterfront to 4th Avenue W/E. This is a roughly pentagonal area that includes the core business district, Westlake Park, Pike Place Market, and the waterfront docks. Street Map

The Equipment - I'm using a Mamiya 6 medium format rangefinder camera with a 75/f3.5 lens. This is the 'normal' lens for this camera, roughly equivalent to a 50mm lens on a 35mm film camera. I like the Mamiya 6 very much for its high quality lenses, ergonomics and especially the 6cm*6cm square format. Mamiya 6 detailed review by Ken Rockwell

All the photos will be taken with Fuji Neopan 400 film processed in Kodak Xtol developer at a 1:2 ratio for 12.5min +/- a bit for contrast control.
