February started great but ended terrible… For us, February means wrestling, more specifically the high school post-season run to the state tournament or “Mat Classic’ held in the Tacoma Dome. The kid was doing great, undefeated and ranked in the top 3 all season. She pinned her way through to the Sub-region championship then did the same thing at Region. On Friday the Tacoma Dome was packed and she easily pinned her first round opponent with a double arm-bar. Tragedy struck in the quarterfinals…
She was in a tight match with the eventual champion and blew out her ACL in the first period, injury defaulting out of the tournament. She’ll be having surgery to repair the ACL on March 4th and then faces 9mos of rehab. She had hoped to post some big results and be a Jr All-American in freestyle this Summer but it’s not going to happen this year. It will be tight just for her knee to be ready for next year’s high school season. It’s a shame such a great season had to end with such a terrible injury. I haven’t had the nerve to be able to look at the video from State yet but here’s some highlights from the Region championships.
