Preface, just so you know who you’re dealing with: I’m not a very good fly fisherman being mostly self taught. Really… no false modesty here. Learning from my own mistakes, books, videos, etc. has been frustrating rewarding but it does induce some idiosyncratic opinions on what works. However, I do fish a fair amount for a 9-5′er, about 50 days a year and I’m an obsessive gear tinkerer so I have fun trying as much stuff as my limited budget permits.
I think the reason there is such a great variety of gear available these days is because for the most part, it’s all pretty good. The reviews below are just my opinions on some of the gear that I have used over the last several seasons. I’ll concentrate on readily available items but if I have something rare or vintage that might be interesting, I’ll post that too.
